Tonal Bench, 2011
Tonal is based on a paper folding technique called pleating. The folding process creates a varied surface of high and low spots called mountains and valleys. When light hits the subtle angles, the tonal pattern is revealed. A 3d cad file was created to mimic the paper folds, which was then used to cut the shape on a CNC router. The parts are assembled, sanded, and finished by hand.
