KITCHEN PHONE, 2007
client: GE

The American kitchen is the hub of the home. Through research, we found that people liked to check their messages in the kitchen. Most phones though were not designed to match kitchens, but rather take the look of consumer electronics. For this product, kitchen appliances would serve as the inspiration. Not only would the simple curve repeat the shapes found in door handles of stainless appliances, but it would also provide for better shouldering and mic placement when using the handset. When the handset is docked, the clean form only presents the time, number of messages, and caller id. The functions for those items are also there as well as a button for hands free speaker phone; a must in the kitchen. The handset has a very large soft earseal that is comfortable on the ear for long periods of use. The keypad on both the handset and the base are a single rubber membrane for easy cleanup. Integrated flip out/flip up feet mean you don't have an extra part to lose, making it easy to go from wall mount or desk mount.
